Dover motor galley punt Maple Leaf

A Dover motor galley punt, the Maple Leaf, regd DR41, is seen here in the same position as in negative P76205 but viewed from the port stern quarter. At the left is a pile of greased timbers used to ease the galley's passage up and down the beach, and the hand-operated winch seen in negative P76205, and to the right, another similar winch. The perspective emphasises the boat's shallow transom and deep deadrise. This galley being motorised, its rudder (not shipped) is hinged at the bottom to a metal rod behind the boat's propeller. Hanging from the gunwale are four fenders made of unknown materials, resembling stacked flower pots in shape and encased in some type of elastic fabric.
