Two Hastings luggers, the Boy Billie on the left and the EVG, regd RX152, are shown photographed from behind their port stern quarters, beached at Hastings, with further luggers to their right. The Boy Billie has a lute stern, while the EVG has the concave-curved planked stern in common with the other luggers whose sterns are visible in the picture. Mizzen yards and furled sails are hauled half-way up the mizzen masts of the Boy Billie and the EVG, while fine-meshed nets hang from the mizzen mast of the EVG. Long bumkins extend over the sterns of these and the other luggers shown, and all appear to have propellers indicating auxiliary power.
