Hastings lugger

An unnamed clinker-built Hastings lugger on the beach at Hastings with a clapboard beach hut to the left of its bow is seen from the starboard side, in a view which underlines the elegance of its planking and its deep hull shape, notable for the characteristic concave-curved stern shared with other local boats in the H.O. Hill collection photographed at Hastings. A net and ropes are laid on the shingle in the foreground to port of the boat, which may be laid up, as no spars are visible.
