St Ives pilchard drivers at Newlyn under sail
Auxiliary fishing luggers are seen sailing south towards Mousehole out of Newlyn, one of which is visibly regd SS57, seen at a distance of about 200ft. It has a gaff mizzen hoisted astern of a wheelhouse, and no foresail, whereas the lugger ahead of it, also with a wheelhouse, has a gaff mizzen and a dipping lug foresail hoisted. Both these luggers have elliptical sterns. Four other luggers are under way beyond these two, sailing in a light wind on smooth water.
