Lewin addressing Afghan refugees by a tent

A photograph showing Terence Lewin addressing around 80-90 Afghan men of different ages by a tent. Lewin stands to the left of the image, his right side towards the camera and his hands on his hips. Immediately behind him is a wooden table with red table cloth and there is a strip of bear earth between him and the audience. Most of the men are sat in a crescent in front of Lewin but some are standing in a row towards the back, facing the camera. Most are wearing turbans and many have blankets wrapped around their shoulders. Amongst the men is a boy wearing red shirt of jacket, sat on the ground between the crossed legs of a seated man. There are also two men in military uniform, probably Pakistani soldiers, amongst the standees. A long brown tent visible in the background, the standing men with their backs to its guy-lines. The top of a single telegraph pole can be seen behind the tent. Original caption (below the photograph, typed): ‘Afghan Refugees Camp.’.

The Afghan men are almost certainly people displaced by the Soviet-Afghan War (1979-89).
