People with fish on Lumley Beach in Sierra Leone
A black and white landscape photograph of people standing around a pile of fish on a beach in Sierra Leone. Thirteen people are visible, spread out in a rough line. This includes women, men and children. Most are stood, either facing or with their backs to the camera, but there is also one child sat down and one women bending over. One women, wearing a printed patterned dress and facing away from the camera, has two bowls on her head. Various baskets are placed on the ground around a strip of caught fish lying on the sand in the centre of the group. Palm trees and other vegetation can been at the edge of the beach in the background with wooden hills behind. Original caption (within the photograph): '1773 - FREETOWN' / 'LANDING FISH ON LUMLEY BEACH.'
