Jamaican people selling produce on the street
A black and white lanscape photograph of Jamaican people selling produce on the street. Eleven people, all Black, are standing or seated in a rough line with boxes and platters of goods set out in front of them, each raised up on a wooden crate. The seated figures include two women wearing dresses and straw hats; another seated woman, turned away from the camera, is wearing headwrap. Two women are standing to the left of the image, one facing the camera and smiling, one with her back to the camera and her hands on her hips. There are at least two children in the group. The boxes have glass sides so the objects inside are visible; the objects they are selling are difficult to discern although one of the platters had spherical objects piled on it, probably fruit or vegetables. A man, half turned away from the camera, wearing a peaked cap and carrying a hoop-like object can be seen on the right of the image. All the figures are stood on bare ground with a row of metal railings behind them, with an ornate stone pillar on the far right of the image. Behind the railings, a tree and shrubs can be seen (possibly a formal garden or park). Original caption (within the photograph): '307 JAMAICA'.
