View of the Royal Hospital, Greenwich

Mounted with PAF2844-PAF2866 and PAF2868-PAF2927; page number 24. A strange, stilted view of the Hospital showing the west front of Wren's original west range of the King Charles Court on the left (replaced by John Yenn's, 1812-15) and the Wren/Hawksmoor west facade of the King William Court on the right. The west end of the Painted Hall is the facade beneath the diminutive dome. In the centre are what are presumably the early east gates onto Park Row, with the porter's lodge to the right (the present gates and lodges being 19th-century).

The armed torso/ trophy on the central pediment of the King Charles facade is likely to be that preserved in rather poor condition above the arch to the east of side of the Pepys Building, north side. The foreground paving is presumably a graphic convention but may represent the original surface of the western drying yard.
