Badge, Star and Sash: Imperial Order of the Rose, Grand Cross
Imperial Order of the Rose of Brazil: neck badge and collar star, awarded to George Biddell Airy in 1872. Badge: Six pointed, gold rimmed, white enamel star, each point ball-tipped, superimposed on circle of roses. Gold centre medallion with entwined initials 'P & A' (Pedro and Amelia) surrounded by a blue band inscribed: 'AMOR E FIDELIDADE'. On the reverse the date of their marriage '2-8-1829'. On a blue band round the date 'PEDRO E AMELIA'. Suspended by a crown from a collar of shields and roses. Star: Obverse of badge superimposed on a gold plaque. Sash: Pink moire ribbon with two white stripes.
