Badge and collar: Imperial Order of the Rose, Grand Cross
Badge and collar of the Imperial Order of the Rose, awarded to George Biddell Airy (1801-1892). Badge: Six pointed, gold rimmed, white enamel star, each point ball-tipped, superimposed on a circle of roses. the gold centre medallion with the entwined initials: 'P & A' (Pedro and Amelia) surrounded by a blue band inscribed: 'AMOR E FIDELIDADE'. On the reverse the date of their marriage: '2-8-1829'. On a blue band round the date: 'PEDRO E AMELIA'. The star is suspended by a crown from a collar of gold shields and enamelled roses. In its box of issue which is covered with emerald-coloured velvet with the gold initials 'P.II' and a crown above.
