Diary of a unknown follower of General Francisco Miranda, 1805-1807, on the first attempt to establish a republic in Venezuela. The diary mentions General Miranda attempting to liberate Venezuela from Spanish rule meeting influential people along the way. It also covers the voyage from Gravesend to New York aboard The Penny under Capt. W.M. Coit from September 2nd 1805 till 23rd December 1805. Names mentioned include Mr Martin, General Miranda, James Coultery, James Taylor and W.D. Dunscombe. On 9th November when The Penny anchored off Governors Island General Miranda met with Thomas Jefferson. The party then travels from New York to board the corvette The Leander under Capt. Thomas Lewis whose owner Mr Samuel. G. Ogden was also a passenger. On landing at La Vela del Coro there is a confrontation with local people and General Miranda withdraws.
