sampling stick, fish meal
Fish meal sampling stick. Fish meal, a valuable ingredient of animal feedstuff, is made from fish that has been ground up and dried, The sampling stick was used to take small samples from fish meal bagged in hessian sacks. By carefully inserting the stick through the hessian it was unnecessary to open the sack and samples from the top middle and bottom were collected in the three open slots. Twisting the handle closed the slots and the stick was then withdrawn. The samples could then be analysed to check their protein and moisture content.
