As Christmas is well behind us and the new year dawning, we wanted to spring forth and announce January's Item of the month. But we can't. The software the Museum uses to post changes on the website is being upgraded and this has caused some delays, meaning we can't publish it yet. January's item of the month might have to become February's... Please bear with us! But never mind, in the meantime there's a couple of events to let you know about: 27 January: Introduction to the Caird Library 11.00am-12.00pm: An opportunity to view a selection of rare manuscripts including personal letters, diaries, crew lists and Marine Society Registers, plus an introduction to our electronic resources. More details: http://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/events/calendar/caird-library-jan14 14 February: Love in the Archives 7.00-8.30pm: Come and share an evening investigating the Caird Library's wonderful collection of love letters in the beautiful setting of the Queen's House, with candlelit tour and musical accompaniment by the Trinity College of Music. More details: http://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/events/calendar/love-in-the-archives-2013 Also an early warning about the Library's annual closed week in February: the Caird Library will be close to visitors at 16.45 on Friday 21 February and re-open at 10.00 on Monday 3 March 2014. The Library's remote enquiry and copying services will also not be available between these dates. This is to allow the team to concentrate on some collections development work including collections held in off-site storage as well as at Greenwich. We hope to offer an even better service as a result. Oh, and a very Happy New Year to all our readers, past present and future !!
