Letter from Nevil Maskelyne to Edward Pigott observations relating to the lunar eclipse.

Letter accompanied by a page of observations relating to the lunar eclipse seen on 10 September 1783. Maskelyne expresses his hope that Pigott will continue to observe the eclipses of the Jupiter's satellites and occultations of the stars by the Moon. Refers to similar observations by Mr Hornsby. Maskelyne also comments on the inaccuracies of Flamsteed's pendulum clocks and mural quadrant. Maskelyne also invites Pigott to visit the Observatory when in London.

In a postscript, Maskelyne confirms that it was Mr Linly who showed Pigott the instruments, not Mr Hellins. Maskelyne also refers to Nathaniel Pigott's observations of the meteor on 18 August 1783, as seen from York, along with a passing comment about the production of the Nautical Almanac.
