Letter from Nevil Maskelyne to Edward Pigott confirms that he will present Pigott's paper on the discovery of a comet to the Royal Society.

In this letter, Maskelyne confirms that he will present Pigott's paper on the discovery of a comet to the Royal Society and he comments on how bad weather and moonlight prevented him from seeing it here at Greenwich. Maskelyne discusses the merit of using thin collimation wires in the field of view and includes a few sketches. He also comments on John Goodricke's (17 September 1764 – 20 April 1786) observations of the variable star Algol.
