Letters from Ella Ambrose to John Short January to March 1934.

In January, Ambrose writes about how much she enjoys receiving 'snaps' of Short at work in his boiler suit, and how she looks forward to receiving the gifts he has described in previous letters. She writes about her activities over the festive period, her family, Short's family, and their mutual friends, the weather, and her health. She enquires about Short's friend's wedding, at which he was best man, asking if he 'picked up any hints'. Ambrose does not write much about her work, but in her letter of 5th February she mentions she is at Supermarine, presumably the Supermarine factory in Woolston, and in a January letter briefly mentions the recruitment of a new cohort of draughtsmen. When she writes from the office, she heads the letter 'At Work', without putting an address. Ambrose writes a lot more about Rangers, a group which she attends on Monday evenings. In a letter dated 21st February she remarks upon current events: "what a terrible tragedy it is the King of the Belgians getting killed like that", referring to the accidental death of Albert I. Ambrose's letters from March concern her friends and their children, how beautiful the weather is, her plans for her and Short's future home, and various trips to the pictures. In her last letter of March, Ambrose encloses a typed love poem.
