Central Register of Seamen 2 forms: Discharge/Transfer from ship to leave and reserve pool
These forms record the discharge of a seaman from the Merchant Navy on leave and their entry into the Reserve Pool while on shore.
Each card typically gives the following information:
discharge number;
certificate of company number (if known);
name of seaman;
year of birth;
place of birth;
rank or rating;
name and official number of ship;
date of engagement of service.
The Central Register of Seamen 2 series was constantly being revised over time therefore the information contains varies on each form.

Administrative / biographical background
In 1941 the Essential Work Order created a Merchant Navy Reserve Pool. To ensure that the seamen were avaliable to man vessels, the Government paid them to remain in the Reserve Pool when they were assure.
