Slip of paper with a copy of Mundy’s letter informing the Duke of Cambridge that he would be glad to take Lieutenant FitzGeorge as his flag lieutenant, dated 13 December 1871. Also the reply sent to Mundy at 47 Welbeck Street, London, from the Duke of Cambridge at Gloucester House, dated 20 December 1871 (with envelope).
This relates to Rear-Admiral Sir Adolphus Augustus Frederick FitzGeorge (1846-1922), the second son of Prince George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904). Mundy had been appointed Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth, with HMS DUKE OF WELLINGTON (1852) as his flagship.
