Orders relating to the British expedition to Sweden, April to July 1808.
Orders received by Gosselin while in command of HMS AUDACIOUS (1785) between April and July 1808, mainly from Vice-Admiral Sir James Saumarez, Commander-in-Chief of the Baltic Fleet, on board HMS VICTORY (1765):
(1) Order for Gosselin to put himself under the command of Saumarez, dated 18 April 1808.
(2) Letter from the Admiralty directing Gosselin to provide Lieutenant-General Sir John Moore and Major General Edward Paget with a passage to Gothenburg, dated 25 April 1808.
(3) Sheet with colour drawings of flags to be flown by the transports, indicating the different military units, signed by George Hope, first captain on the VICTORY, Flemish Roads, Gothenburg, dated 23 May 1808.
(4) Directions in the event of troops being disembarked in the face of the enemy or on the enemy’s shore, signed by the first captain on the VICTORY, Flemish Roads, Gothenburg, dated 7 June 1808.
(5) Order for Gosselin to take under his charge the transports carrying troops under Moore's command, also the bomb vessel HMS ZEBRA (1780), and proceed to Yarmouth, then to join Saumarez off Gothenburg, dated 1 July 1808.
