Journals of Stanley Lawrence Albert Ball as a cadet on the training ship MEDWAY (11 September 1916 - 27th October 1917), covering Cardiff, South America and South Africa. Includes: photographs (such as pictures of Zulu chidren and the ships Mascot Squirrel) and post cards; journal of RMS MAURETANIA and a ship not named, Southampton to New York and San Francisco - South America and back to Ipswich (26 March - 23 October 1919), including photographs and newspaper clippings; loose papers and photos in folder; two books, one folder.

Administrative / biographical background
The MEDWAY (1902) was a four masted barque, prevouisly called AMA BEGNAKOA, in 1910 it was purchased from Sota y Aznar, Montevideo and renamed MEDWAY and used as training ship by Devitt and Moore Ocean Training Ship Limited. In 1918 it was sold to Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co., converted to steam tanker and renamed Myr Shell then scrapped in 1933.
