Letters to Stanley Lawerence Albert Ball and the history of the MEDWAY.
A series of letters addressed to Stanley Ball including a number of letters from Captain David Williams (the master of the MEDWAY when Stanley was a cadet on board); letters from Lemaitre about L'AVENIR and a letter home to his mother from HMT KONIGIN LUISE.
Administrative / biographical background
The MEDWAY was a four masted barque, prevouisly called AMA BEGNAKOA, in 1910 it was purchased from Sota y Aznar, Montevideo and renamed MEDWAY and used as training ship by Devitt and Moore Ocean Training Ship Limited. In 1918 it was sold to Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co., converted to steam tanker and renamed Myr Shell then scrapped in 1933.
