Journals kept by Henry Neale Scaife in the ROYAL SAXON on a voyage from London to Sydney between 17 November 1838 to 23 March 1839; the OCEAN barque on a voyage from Sydney to London between 3 February 1844 to 17 March 1844; the TOPAZE while on a passage from Valparaiso to Vancouver in 1862. Includes commissions, certificates and a photograph album put together by Scaife who served in the Royal Yacht VICTORIA AND ALBERT.

Administrative / biographical background
Scaife was appointed clerks assistance of the sloop FROLIA at Rio Janeiro in 1845; appointed commander of the Royal yacht VICTORIA AND ALBERT, 1851 and became secretary to Lord Adolphus Fitzclarence in 1852. He was later appointed additional paymaster of the FISGARD in 1853. Scaife was appointed secretary to Rear-Admiral Provo W. P. Wallis, Commander in Chief on the South East Coast of the American Station in 1857.and appointed paymaster of the INDUS in 1873.
