This series includes two certificates, authenticating that Fairfax received communion ‘according to the usages of the Church of England’ and a chart showing the wages paid to all classes of sailors at the end of the seventeenth century. Also featured is a certificate of exemption from the press gang, dating from 1754, long after Fairfax’s death. [It may have belonged to a descendent, and been placed with these papers, though the name of Fairfax does not appear].
