Logs kept as a midshipman on the Pacific station, 1871-1875

Volume containing logs kept by Thomas Young Greet as a midshipman on the Pacific station, between December 1871 and March 1875.

They cover his service on HMS ZEALOUS (1864), flagship of Rear-Admiral Arthur Farquhar, between 3 December 1871 and 14 August 1872; then on the sloop HMS FAWN (1856), under Commander Herbert P. Knevitt, between 15 August 1872 and 20 April 1874. Greet briefly served on the corvette HMS SCOUT (1856) at Coquimbo before returning to the FAWN on 6 July 1874. The FAWN went into the basin at Sheerness for paying off on 9 March 1875.

Inserted are track charts, plans, and a poster for an evening of entertainments performed by the officers’ amateur dramatic company at the Theatre Royal, Victoria, while the ZEALOUS was at Esquimalt in October 1871.
