The naval officers represented in the Wrey and Greive collection are connected by the two marriages of Flora Greive née Robertson who died at Southsea, Hampshire, in 1921. Her first husband was Commander John Oldershaw Bathurst. They were married at Malta in 1850. As a widow Flora Bathurst married Captain William Samuel Brown, son of General John Tatton Brown, at Southsea in 1868. A daughter from her second marriage, Blanche Ruth Brooke Tatton Greive, married Lieutenant Francis Granville Godolphin Osborne in 1896. Another daughter, Flora Bathurst Greive, married Lieutenant William Bourchier Sherard Wrey in 1897. General Brown changed his name to Brown-Greive following his second marriage in 1872. Rear-Admiral William Samuel Brown changed his surname to Greive in accordance with the terms of his stepmother's will in 1884.
