The oriental style front of Crusoe's Island Rifle Sports building, Royal Naval Exhibition, Chelsea

A view of the ornate front of 'Crusoe's Island Rifle Sports / J. Lyon & Co Limited' building (shooting range), Royal Naval Exhibition, Chelsea. According to the Catalogue the front was based on the entrance to a mosque at Adjoudhya near the military contonment at Faixabud in Oudh (page 536). Next to the building, on the right, is the mock mediaeval crenellated stone entrance to the Admirals portrait gallery with the notice 'Realistic Reproductions of British Dependencies and living portraits of Famous Naval Commanders / Admission 3d'. Naval ratings stand at both entrances to the shooting gallery. On the far left is the corner of the model dairy building. The Illustrated Handbook describes the interior of the shooting gallery as being made of cardboard to look like a jungle in which the visitor can shoot at ducks, foxes, rats, rabbits, monkeys and owls.
