A Japanese parade featuring a float/decorated car
A colourised portrait photograph of a Japanese parade including a float/decorated car. The parade is progressing along a street towards the camea. Many of the people taking part in the parade wear patterned costumes and woven, broad-brimmed convex straw hats with flowers on top. Further down the street, away from the camera, is a float/car. It is equal in heigh to the buildings on either side of the street and has people sat in it. A banner with a three-pointed circular symbol is visible near the top of the float, with a statue or efegy of a beared man on the very top.He has his right arm raised. People line the street on either side watching the parade. Some are holding umbrellas to protect them from the sun. A string of lanterns, each deocrated with a red orb, has been set up along each side of the street. Telegraph pools are visible on the left side of the image. Original caption (typed, within the photograph): ‘A 166 ORNAMENTAL CAR DRAWN AT FESTIVALS’.
