Album of HMS Barfleur (1892)

A black lacquered, wood carved album with gold painting pearly storks, held in a foral design wooden box.
The album contains 83 photographs which are glued in, and is the work of Midshipman Francis S. Drake Esdaile 1883-7/7/1900, who died of wounds received at Tientsin during the Boxer Rebellion.
Locations included are:Suez circa 1897, Hong Kong, Wei-Hai-Wei, Amoy, and Japanese ports including Kobe, Yokohama, Nagasaki and Tsugaru.
Themes include:
4 photographs of ship's officers 1887-1900 (pre 7/7/1900)
Japan topographical
Japanese fishermen
Japanese Junks
3 loose photgraphs of Midshipman F. S. D. Eslaide R.N, and also 2 of his grave
