Study of a dog wearing collar and of tree branches

No. 17 of 30 (PAH3772 - PAH3801)

The dog depicted in this undated sheet of studies is probably Schetky’s dog, Peter. Schetky's daughter, SFL Schetky, recounts that ‘the summer of 1819 brought the artist great sorrow in the death of his faithful old dog, Peter. It was to him the severance of many an old tie, the loss of an inseparable companion; for through the many changes of 18 years the master and servant had never been parted, and the loving intelligence of the latter had become interwoven with every pursuit and interest of the former.’
