Scale 1:48. Plan showing the hold with sections as fitted for the masted turret ironclad HMS Captain (1869). The plan includes later alterations in 1870. The sections illustrated are at frames (not numbered) ca.140, 134 looking forward (l/f), 130 l/f, (not numbered) ca 118 looking aft (l/a), 96 l/a, 80 l/f, (not numbered) 50 l/f, 44 l/f, 38 l/a, (not numbered) 36, 28 and 22.
Marked "Alterations and additions shown in red ink". Drawing carries red (Admiralty) Portsmouth Yard stamp dated 27 July 1870 crossed out in black ink; annotated "See O.L. of this date".
Upper (reserve) coal bunkers deleted.
Substantial modifications to fore and aft shell rooms marked:
"For alterations in Forward Shell Room see Plan of Forward Magazines and Shell Rooms";
"For alterations in Supplementary Shell Room and Snider Magazine See Plan of After Magazine and Shell Rooms"
(Snider refers to the Snider-Enfield rifle).
