TURRET FOR TWO 600 POUNDER GUNS designed by Capt Cowper P Coles, 1865.

Scale 1:12. Drawing showing a split plan view of a turret for two 600 pounder guns with 5.5 inch armour plate, 1 inch inner plating, 10 inch 'T' frames, and 18 inch timber backing.
Top half illustrates the turret with the top cover removed;
Bottom half illustrates the distribution of frames in the turret.

The plan notes that an increase in the thickness of armour to 10 inches would only increase the weight by 28 tons (see NPC8567, NPC8709, NPC8710, NPC8711 for the relevant plans).

Drawn and signed by J (Joseph) Scullard, Head Draughtsman, Portsmouth Yard.
Endorsed by Cowper P Coles, 18 November 1865.

VERY FRAGILE AND TORN.
