Weaving the seas

Join this weaving workshop inspired by Alberta Whittle's tapestry 'Feeling Blue' at the Queen's House, focusing on care, climate change, and communal making.

Commemorate and highlight the ocean's vital role as our planet's largest ecosystem by hand-weaving seascapes with your family.

With activities suitable for all ages and abilities, you can contribute to a large-scale sea tapestry and create your own miniature seascape tapestry to take home.

This drop-in activity will take place in the Great Hall at the heart of the Queen's House. Find out what else you can do as a family during your visit to the Queen's House here.

About Feeling Blue

Feeling Blue is a brand-new commission from Royal Museums Greenwich. It was created by multidisciplinary artist Alberta Whittle and Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh.

Currently on display in the Queen’s Presence Chamber in the Queen’s House, the tapestry is rooted in maritime traditions.

“The title for the tapestry – Feeling Blue – is derived from a nautical saying,” Whittle explains. “When sailors would pass away at sea, the crew would paint a blue band on the hull of the ship or wear some kind of blue.”

Head to the Queen’s House to see Feeling Blue for yourself, and learn more about the tapestry's making here.
