Firstly, a letter from one Captain R.N. Coutine, dated 24 September 1788. It concerns the supply of timber, and the need for a carpenter. Secondly, a number of letters written by Admiral Sir Richard Graves concerning a mortgage. They have been dated between 1812 and 1814 and located to London and Bath. Thirdly, a poster from the admirality regarding internal security - specifically, requesting strangers not to enter rooms occupied by clerks. The notice is dated 1st March 1858. Fourthly, a book titled, "Excelsior" Being an indequate description of the Upper Yangtze, by an author known only by the pseudonym Charon. It contains a notably dated National Maritime Museum process slip, and details the book as being published in Shanghai in 1934. It concerns a recommendation regarding the former's son given by the Duke of Northumberland. The letter itself is brief and covers only one small page in relatively large, well-spaced handwriting. Finally, there is another letter, addressed to Sir Graham Hamond (1779-1862) from 'a former colleague'. It is dated to 1885, although this attribution is based upon a pencil annotation on the first page, beneath the address. The letter concerns welfare of the colleagues son who had been in Tahiti.
