Items relating to the careers of James Garriock (1861-1937), and his father Archibald Garriock (1829-1890), both master mariners:

Certificate of competency as master of Archibald Garriock, dated 14 June 1858 (certificate number 18865).

Certificate of competency as master of James Garriock, dated 5 September 1885 (certificate number 011530).

Discharge certificates relating to the employment of James Garriock on the iron barques CASSANDRA (1868) and COLCHAQUA (1866), and the iron three-masted ship WEST RIDING (1875), between 1877 and 1888.

Issues of ‘Sea Breezes’ magazine from May 1938 and December 1960, featuring an obituary for James Garriock and a discussion of Garriock family connections with the iron barque AETHELBERHT (1876).

Two photocopies of a notice of the death of James Garriock from the ‘Liverpool Journal of Commerce’, 27 November 1937.

Sixteen photographs and postcards showing sailing vessels connected with the Garriock family and the port of Liverpool, including the iron ships RAJORE (1882) and BARCORE (1884), and the steel four-masted barques CROMPTON (1890), ALCEDO (1891) and BALASORE (1892). Also two negatives, one showing a painting of the AETHELBERHT, as mentioned above.
