A formal photograph of the crew of HMS Sussex (1928)

A formal photograph of the crew with the Duke of Gloucester on board the heavy cruiser HMS Sussex (1928). The ship is alongside a quay, possibly at Sydney, Australia. The photograph was taken from the bows looking back towards the bridge and superstructure. The top of the mast is out of the image. Crew are in tiered rows on the deck, as well as standing on A and B gun turrets, and the bridges and platforms of the forward superstructure. Two large life rings with HMS SUSSEX on them have been placed at an angle on the two anchor cable holders with the capstan in between. A wooded hillside can be seen in the distance on the right.

HMS Sussex with the Duke of Gloucester on board arrived in Sydney on 22 November 1934 and finally departed for the Lord Howe Islands on 8 February 1935.
