A Sri Lankan man with an elephant

An uncaptioned black and white portrait photograph of a Sri Lankan man standing in front of an elephant, both facing the camera. The man, probably an elephant handler, wears a shirt or jacket, open to reveal his torso, and a sarong-like garment round his legs, and is barefoot. His right arm holds a stick and left arm is raised above his head, holding the animal’s jowls. The elephant has its trunk raised, giving a view into its mouth between its tusks. One of its eyes is visible and it has a chain round its neck. The flank and legs of another elephant can be seen at the right of the image. Vegetation and part of a low building are visible in the background.
