Sketch of 'Benbow', 74 guns (with notes)
Part-finished sketch of 'Benbow', in starboard-broadside view, minus much of her rigging and sails. No background is shown, and the ship's hull is shown in its entirety, as if in dry dock, suggesting a period of maintenance. Interestingly, we know that 'Benbow' was placed in harbour service in February 1848, the period around when Strickland was compiling the sketchbook containing this item. Inscribed: "Benbow" (below) and "Stirrups 3 & 4. Blue [illegible]. Black armour. Gilt rivets & edges. Chain bowsprit spreads. Chain bumkin braces" (above). Stored with PAH4442-PAH4506, PAH4508-PAH4521.
