Leith Harbour, 1795

No. 70 of 73 (PAI0889 - PAI0961)

Inscribed in the upper right corner 'Leith harbour 1795.'

In 1795 the 17 year old Schetky was still living in his native Edinburgh and studying under Alexander Nasmyth. SFL Schetky tells of her father as a schoolboy playing truant with his brother, Charles, ‘one fine summer day – when the gleam of the Firth seen from Castle Hill was too tempting to be resisted – and spending hours which should have been devoted to the classics in an expedition to Leith, where dwelt an old fisherman, upon the hire of whose boat they generally spent all their small pocket money.
