'Bora bora, SE side, within the reef, Septr 5th 1849' [Society Islands]
No. 22 in Fanshawe's Pacific album, 1849 - 52. Captioned by the artist on the album page below the image, as title. Fanshawe's viewpoint appears to be inside the outer-reef island of Motu Pitiaau, of which an inward spur appears on the right, and looking into a bay across the isthmus from the larger Pofai Bay on the west side. One of a group of seven Society Island studies (PAI4616 - PAI4627) made while Fanshawe commanded 'Daphne' in the Pacific, October 1848 - 1852: three are of Bora Bora (PAI4625 - PAI4627).
