No. 43 in Fanshawe's Pacific album, 1849 - 52. Captioned by the artist on the album page below the image, as title. For the circumstances of Fanshawe and the 'Daphne' being at Mazatlan on the Mexican Pacific coast (15 August - 9 October 1850), see PAI4648. This drawing shows Fanshawe being rowed out from shore in his gig in dreaful weather. The conical coastal hill in the background today bears the Mazatlan lighthouse (1879). Fanshawe did three views at Mazatlan in 1850 (PAI4648 - PAI4650) and one in 1851 (PAI4699).
