Claims to promotion and memoirs of service, 1836-1854.

Various statements of Dobbie's career to date and claims to promotion:

(1) Copy of a statement of Dobbie’s claims to promotion, made while serving as mate on HMS MAGICIENNE (1831), given to Sir Charles Adam at the Admiralty, dated 27 February 1836. It mentions five acts of lifesaving, the last a few months ago when the jib boom of the MAGICIENNE was carried away off Lisbon.
(2) Single sheet with written details of Dobbie’s service, made circa 1837. It highlights four instances of his bravery in saving other individuals from drowning, as attested by the documents written by several captains, and votes of thanks from the Royal Humane Society, accompanied by the Silver Medal in the last two cases.
(3) Memoir written by Dobbie on the sloop HMS ROSE (1821) in the West Indies, copied for his mother and wife, dated 23 July 1845.
(4) Statement of Dobbie's claims to promotion, made while serving as first gunnery lieutenant on the ROSE, under the command of Commander Richard W. Pelly, on the North America and West Indies station, 1846.
(5) Memorial of the services of Dobbie, commanding the wooden paddle sloop HMS BUZZARD (1849), on the North America and West Indies station, dated August 1853.
(6) As above, dated February 1854.
