Box O46: Log as a cadet and then midshipman on HMS OCEAN in the Mediterranean and then on the China station, 15 May 1900 to 28 February 1902. Journal as midhipman on HMS OCEAN on the China station, HMS SPARTIATE on passage home and HMS MAGNIFICENT, flagship of the Channel Fleet, 1 March 1902 to 15 August 1903.

Box O47: Files of typescript reports relating to warships commanded by Lloyd: Navigation of the Han River in China by HMS WOODLARK, April to June 1914. Loss of HMS NASTURTIUM, mined off Malta in April 1916, and reports of proceedings for HMS BERBERIS, including the sinking of the merchant vessels MILAZZA and KINGSTONIAN, May 1916 to April 1918. Printed chart showing the movements of the British Grand Fleet 1914 - 1918, Harmsworth's New Atlas Supplement. Reports of proceedings for HMS HECTOR in the Indian Ocean, January to November 1940. Exercise books (4 volumes) containing his handwritten journal, plus loose photographs, ephemera, newspaper cuttings, etc., March 1938 to May 1945.

Bundle O48: Seven volumes of journals written by Lloyd during his naval career, covering the period 1 January 1906 to 12 November 1913, including some loose letters, items of ephemera, invitation cards, etc. This includes including two adverts for Japanese performances involving puppets at a theatre at Asakusa in Toyko around 1906. The manga storyboards include images of men and women, skeletons and animals.

Bundle O49: Six volumes of journals written by Lloyd during his naval career, covering the periods 13 November 1913 to 4 August 1914 and 1916-1941, including some loose letters, items of ephemera, invitation cards, etc. Note his journal covering 4 August 1914 to 26 April 1916 was lost in the sinking of HMS NASTURTIUM.

Administrative / biographical background
Lloyd was born in Market Drayton, Shropshire in 1884. During the period 1911-1920 he commanded HMS RANGER, HMS NASTURTIUM, HMS BERBERIS, the destroyer HMS NARWHAL and then the destroyer HMS TENACIOUS. He was awarded the DSO in 1917. He retired at his own request in 1922 and gained his masters certificate (number 77, 377) in 1926. He was in Barcelona in 1938-1939 during the Spanish Civil War. During the Second World War he commanded the armed merchant cruiser HMS HECTOR and the cruiser HMS EMERALD. He died in the Plymouth registration area in 1970. His service record can be found under the reference ADM 196/126/345 at The National Archives.
