Uncatalogued: Papers of Sir Percy Loraine.

2 Folders - First folder: a journal book compiled by Lieut. C Parry titled "The Royal Yacht", logging the movements of the H.M.S. ROYAL OAK; A short biographical booklet titled "The life and services of Admiral Sir Thomas Foley, G.C.B. Rear Admiral of Great Britain". A second booklet titled "Reform of Titles in the Royal Navy" has also been included, and the author is given simply as "By A Captain." Additionally, someone has handwritten that it was "proposed via L. Lorraine". The folder also contains a number of papers covering a range of subjects. These include: "Comparative War Strength of the Six Great European Powers in 1874"; a printed two-part account titled The "Virginus" Affair, - 1873; a memoranda of service at sea in the Royal Navy, listing a variety of sailing vessels and their respective home stations; a timeline of the H.M.S NIOBES' work in the West Indes (1871-3). Finally there are a number of miscellaneous items including two Times newspaper cuttings upon the celebration and remembrance of Trafalgar, a score card for the H.M.S ROYAL OAK's opera performances, a small note from the Committee of Naval Officers Uniform, and a letter of presentation for a framed print of Captain Broke of the H.M.S SHANNON. A note has been written beneath this, "In the frame of this print was a remnant of oak wood taken from the timbers of the Shannon of 1883, also a piece of pitch-pine taken from the timber of the Chesapeake". Neither the frame nor the print have been included in the folder. Second Folder: 2 Signal Journals. The first is is titled the "Signal Journal of the Flag-Ship of Rear-Admiral, the Honorable Joseph Denman, from 18th August 1864 to 29th March 1866 (inclusive", and written by Lt. Lorraine. The second is titled similarly, covers from the 30th March 1866 to the 5th July 1867.
