Consul, Cape Verde Islands includes a list of letters at the front of the book; at the back of the letterbook is copies of letters written in French, also included is a newspaper clipping titled the Earthquake at Ischia and a report of the loss of the Barque BOGOTA (official ship number 19189 by fire.)

Administrative / biographical background
Major Fitzroy Pleydell Goddard born 29 August 1852 died 12 August 1927, the son of Ambrose Lethbridge Goddard and Charlotte Ayshford Sanford. He married Eugenia Kathleen Merry, a diplomat for the British he was the last heir of his line having no children of his own.
