Gilbert Cyril William Crispin was born in 1877. He entered into the Navy as midshipman on 15 May 1894, then became acting sub-lieutenant and sub-lieutenant in 1897; promoted to lieutenant on 31 August 1899; commander on 22 June 1911, captain on 31 December 1918 and was placed on the retired list on 20 July 1922.
