Diaries kept by Thurlow for 1904, 1906, 1909-1911, 1914 and 1919; an account of the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet 1918; photograph album, 1918; a written account of his life at sea up to his retirement in 1922 and a newspaper cutting of his involvement chasing a Russian destroyer, ARVTOI, which was captured and taken to Reval, dated 16 December 1936 from the STAR newspaper.

Administrative / biographical background
Thurlow born 25 June 1886 entered the Navy on 11 August 1914 as Acting Signal Bosun. He was promoted to Acting Mate on 15 February 1915 and Lieutenant on 15 December 1917. He was placed on the retired list on 29 July 1922 and promoted Lieutenant-Colonel (retired) on 15 February 1925. Appointed to the ARROGANT in 1915 and took part in destroyers on the Dover Patrol and took a gunnery course in the same year and passed with a first class certificate; being recommended for promotion. As Acting Mate he joined the INVINCIBLE in 1915 and FALCON, 1915 - 1917. He then joined the MANSFIELD in 1917 as Lieutenant until 1918; then took a short course at the shore training establishment HMS EXCELLENT followed by a course in the VICTORY until May then joined the CARDIFF until 1919 undertaking signal duties. Thurlow was Chief Signal Officer of the Grand Fleet during World War I. On leaving the Navy he worked in London briefly and in 1938 moved to Friern Barnet as Civil Defence Officer and was injured in the Blitz. He died in 1956.
