This volume adapts sections of Pennant's Arctic Zoology (1784, 2nd edn 1792). A title page for the 'Northern Regions' volumes is adapted from the frontispiece to the Arctic Zoology, and the volume ends with pages inserted mostly from the 'Supplement' to the 1792 edition.

A number of original illustrations are likely attributable to Moses Griffith. These include: watercolour views of the English and French coasts at Dover and Calais alongside a chart of the 'Streight of Dover' (pp. 4–5); views of 'Winterton Church', 'Orford', and 'Cromer Lights' (pp. 12–13); 'Flamborough Head' and 'Flamborough Caves' (pp. 22–23); 'Robin Hood's Bay', 'Whitby', '6 miles N from Hartlepool' and 'Cheviot Hills' (pp. 28–29); 'Leith Roads' and 'Bass' (pp. 32–33); coastal views of Orkney, alongside a chart of 'The North Coast of Scotland' (pp. 48–49); coastal views of Shetland alongside a chart (pp. 56–57); coastal views of 'Koul' and 'The Sound' [Øresund]alongside chart showing Denmark and Sweden (pp. 142–143). One imge is directly attributed to Griffith, a copy of [Nicholas] Pocock's 'A View of Thorshaven in the Island of Stromoe, the Capital of the Faroe Islands', itself 'taken from a Drawing done on the spot by Lieutnt. Pierie[? or 'Pierce'] of the Navy' and dated 1792 (pp. 90–91).

Includes other watercolours, some ascribed to N[icholas] Pocock, depicting views from John Thomas Stanley's 1789 voyage with Lieutenant Pierie (see above) to the Faroe Islands and Iceland. These are mentioned in Pennant's History of the Parishes of Whiteford and Holywell (1796), p. 7. Those bearing Pocock's name and dated 1792 are entitled 'View of Troll Head...' (pp. 84–85); 'Mount Heckla' (pp. 100–101); 'View of Sneefells Jokull' (pp. 102–103); 'View from the Snows on Sneefels Jokul Island' (pp. 103–104); 'Columns and Caves at Stappen' (pp. 106–107); 'Part of the Sulphur Mines at Krusavig in Iceland' (pp. 108–109).
