Malayan Islands and New Holland.
'Malayan Islands and New Holland'. A version of this volume published posthumously under the direction of Pennant's son David, as part of the 'Outlines of the Globe, Vol. IV: The View of The Malayan Isles, New Holland, and the Spicy Islands' (London, 1800).
Elaborate title-page, dated 'December 1st 1792', covers P/16/18 and P/16/19. Depicts a mountainous island landscape with a bird of paradise, a palm tree, and a dead specimen of another bird in the foreground.
Itinerary begins at Sumatra before moving roughly eastwards through modern Indonesia, then covers the 'Manilla Islands' [i.e. the Philippines] before ending with a circumnavigation of the coasts of 'New Holland' [i.e. Australia].
Some input from Joan Gieon Loten (1710–1789), see p. 45. Frequent references to Joseph Banks and James Cook, e.g. p. 48. Includes reports on Port Jackson [i.e. Sydney] in Australia based on the accounts of Arthur Phillip (1738–1814), first governor of New South Wales, from p. 142.
Full itinerary and general index in rear of volume.
