Pennant's account based in part on communications with Peter Simon Pallas (1741–1811), see pp. 30, 115–116. For their printed correspondence up to 1781, see Carol Urness (ed), 'A Naturalist in Russia: Letters from Peter Simon Pallas to Thomas Pennant' (Minneapolis, 1967). Volume contains several prints inserted from Pallas's 'Reise Durch Verschiedene Provinzen des Russischen Reichs' (Saint Petersburg, 1771–1776).
Volume contains several of John Webber's prints from Captain Cook's third voyage, inserted at various points from pp. 132–205.
Two watercolours, apparently of Kamchatka, inserted between pp. 146–151.
