Chinese artist working on a canvas in a studio, surrounded by other paintings

A black and white photograph of a Chinese man working on a canvas. He is at a desk, sat on four-legged stool, with his left side and back turned towards the camera. He holds a paintbrush in his right hand, its point on a canvas featuring three figures that is propped up on the desk. Directly behind this canvass is another, larger canvas featuring a portrait of a man, of which only part of the face can be seen. Resting on the floor and propped up against one of the back legs of the desk is a framed canvas with its front turned away from the camera. On the wall to his right are three unframed paintings: one, full-length portrait of a Chinese woman sat by a table and holding a fan, a seascape showing a junk and another vessel in the distance, and a smaller, half-length portrait of a Chinese woman. Behind the man is a pedestal or table with a metal water pipe (for smoking) on its top. Behind this, up against the wall furthest from him, is a larger wooden dresser with ornate carving on its front and side. It has a vase and other objects on its top. There is some form of curtain or drape in the corner of the room.

This photograph may show the studio of a real artist or it may be a whole or partial fabrication for the purposes of creating a photograph for sale.
